About the Organization

The Chinchina Fire Department has 22 full-time professional staff and more than 20 part-time volunteers.  Fire suppression and emergency medical services are a single team.  The fire chief is the head of the organization and dispatch handles all the calls for both the fire engines and the ambulances. Chinchina is a city of approximately 50,000 residents.  The department responds to calls within Chinchina city limits and for 21 villages within its jurisdiction.

Assignment

Opportunities to train and share with Colombian first responders in the fields of medicine, police, disaster relief, and firefighting will offer an unforgettable and valuable experiences for anyone who has worked in such fields.  Much logistical planning is required for this opportunity so it is important to follow-through on participation commitment – and a background check may be conducted to verify the participants experience, in addition to a video interview by the volunteer site’s managers may be requested.  You will participate alongside EMT’s serving on (4) 12-hr work shifts per week assigned to senior staff of the Chinchina fire department.  You will be expected to conduct all duties assigned to you, matching those duties assigned to other active duty personnel.  These duties include responding as part of the 911 emergency response team, train with the staff team, conduct regular fire station and equipment maintenance.

  • To share how American First Responders train & operate to meet their unique setting & resources

Internship Requirements

Participant Requirements:

Educational Background: First Aid Certified; Plus be currently school enrolled or have prior experience at least in one of the following career rolesCNA, EMT, lifeguard, corpsman, firefighter, combat medic, paramedic, nurse, or medical doctor.
